Meet another exciting up-and-coming author in the young adult scene at our pizza party celebrating the release of The Dead Tossed Waves, a companion title to the critically acclaimed novel The Forest of Hands and Teeth. Carrie Ryan earned praise from critics and teens alike with her debut novel and its literary exploration of a post-apocalyptic society attempting to exist in the midst of a constant threat of zombie invasion.
Lyrical and captivating like it predicessor, the tory continues within the confines of a world devastated by a deadly virus. But The Dead Tossed Waves (On sale March 9) takes a distinctive narrative turn, conveying the same world from a different, and wholly original, point of view - Mary's daughter - in this gripping story bound by rules and fences. Unlike her mother, Gabry is content with her quiet life by the sea. But life after the Return is never safe and there are threats even the Barrier can't hold back. And when a simple childhood dare opens up a dangerous and terrifying world full of Mudo, Soulers, and a tangled web of love, hurt, andger, and mystery, Gabry begins to question everything and trust no one.

With a self-supporting career in dental hygiene, author M.J. Rigg returned to school in her mid-forties and graduated from Michigan State University with a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies. Each class was specifically chosen for its content pertaining to sixteenth-century England and Europe. Rigg discovered that history is a treasure box filled with stories waiting to be told.
Booksinging with Mary DeVoir for her new book, A Bartender's Guide to a Happy Life. "Every good party guest should be able to rattle off a witty quote, some time-tested advice, or at least a joke or two. Furthermore, every good party host should have ample cocktail recipes on hand (try more than 250). Now a book filled with all of the above - and a Honey Dew Martini recipe - is out, and let's put it this way: this book should be dancing unabashedly while wearing a lampshade on its head..." reviewed by Melissa Black, On the Town

Author and Speaker Denise Rowe loves to use symbolism and the creative arts to inspire and help people heal inwardly. As a licensed mental health practitioner, she believes in casting truth in childlike terms in order to reach the deep places of the heart. Dragonfly Denny: the pursuit of Destiny is exquisitely illustrated from cover to cover in pen and ink and watercolor by award-winning artist Violet Freeland. This metaphor story poem is about daring to dream big, finding a faith that fosters inner healing, courageously risking the unfamiliar, and persevering to own one's destiny. Evil Genes is the first book to tie together the cutting edge neuroscientific and genetic results that explain human evil. Unlike other popular books about human evil, Evil Genes goes far beyond explaining psychopathic behavior using old-fashioned psychological theories or religious dogma. Instead, the book centers on what neuroscience and genetics are revealing about not only psychopathy, but also the more subtly devious and malevolent behavior of seemingly ordinary people.

Millions of readers have fallen in love with Little Women, Louisa May Alcott's enduring and treasured classic. But how could Louisa May Alcott - who never married or fell in love, as far as we know - have written so convincingly about young love and heartbreak without having experienced it herself? In The Lost Summer of Louisa May Alcott, Kelly O'Connor McNees gracefully mixes fact and fiction as she imagines a secret love affair Louisa experienced in the summer of 1855, an episode lost to history, which would ultimately inspire Jo and Laurie's relationship in Little Women. Join us for a night of great women's fiction and our traditional grab-bag book drawing!
As the national campaign manager for Ralph Nader's historic runs for president in 2000 and 2004, Theresa Amato had a rare ringside role in two of the most hotly contested presidential elections this country has seen. In Grand Illusion, she gives us a witty, thoughtful critique of the American electoral system, as well as a powerful argument for opening up the contest as if people and their daily lives mattered.
Looking beyond the Nader story to campains waged by challengers John Anderson, Ross Perot, Pat Buchanan, and others, Amato shows how limiting ourselves to two candidates deprives our country of a robust political life, strips would-be contenders of their free speech and association rights, and cheats voters out of meaningful political choices.

At her heaviest, Michigan author Nancy Makin weighed 703 pounds. Since May 2003, she has shed 530 of them and has kempt it off for five years. She didn't diet, take pills or have pre-made meals delivered to her. There was no fitness trainer nor did she land herself on a reality competition. She did it all with the click of a mouse.
Because of her weight, Nancy had been homebound for over a dozen years. Imagine being imprisoned in your own home - not noticing changes in your neighborhood or even changes in the world. Everything she did, from sleeping to using bathroom, was a life-threatening challenge. One day, her sister bought her a computer. A techno-phobe, Nancy ignored it for months, until finally boredom and curiosity got the best of her. And there, in a chat room, she found the friendliness and human interaction she had been missing for so long.
A moving tale of losing your sense of self and then rediscovering it in the most unlikely of places, Nancy's story will bring you tears of grief, laughter and joy. Don't miss this inspiring event!
