“This is not your mother’s autism book! Raw, honest with ‘she said what?!’ laughs on every page.”
It reads like pages of a diary, revealing Jeni’s hilarious, inspiring, and downright unbelievable day to day life trying to take care of her children and keep her sanity in the process. Between “poop incidents,” restaurant adventures with a kid whose germaphobia often leads to disaster, chronic hemorrhoids, and the “helpful” advice about parenting from her fellow citizens in line at the grocery store, Jeni lives at her wits’ end.  The book is a collection of tales so frank, you’ll be shaking your head in disbelief or—if you’ve experienced half the wonder, trauma, pride, and joy that can come along with raising an autistic child—nodding along in recognition. “I am the mother of two amazing autistic children on different ends of the autism spectrum,” says Jeni. “And these are our stories.”I Wish I Were Engulfed in Flames also includes poetry from Jeni’s eldest son, Jake, giving readers further insight into a mind that at times baffles even Jeni. Read it and weep, read it and laugh, this book is for modern parents everywhere.  About the Author: Jeni Decker lives on a farm in rural Michigan with her husband, two autistic sons, an Australian Shepherd, and an albino frog named Humbert Humbert. In between kid-wrangling and writing, she is also an independent filmmaker. You can find her at: closetspacemusings.blogspot.com.

Running the Rift follows Jean Patrick Nkuba, a gifted Rwandan boy, from the day he knows that running will be his life to the moment he must run to save his life, a ten-year span in which his country is undone by the Hutu-Tutsi tensions. Born a Tutsi, he is thrust into a world where it’s impossible to stay apolitical—where the man who used to sell you gifts for your family now spews hatred, where the girl who flirted with you in the lunchroom refuses to look at you, where your Hutu coach is secretly training the very soldiers who will hunt down your family. Yet in an environment increasingly restrictive for the Tutsi, he holds fast to his dream of becoming Rwanda’s first Olympic medal contender in track, a feat he believes might deliver him and his people from this violence. When the killing begins, Jean Patrick is forced to flee, leaving behind the woman, the family, and the country he loves. Finding them again is the race of his life.

While new to Chicago, Phillip-Michael Scales is no stranger to the Midwest nor to packing up a van and playing original music to a crowd. He is the man-behind-the-curtain of Briar Rabbit. Raised in a suburb of Detroit, Scales began playing music at a young age. By high school he was self-releasing records, fronting bands, and went on to formally study music at college in Boston. A return to the Midwest allowed time to process his stay on the east coast resulting in the debut release "Briar Rabbit & The Company You Keep." Using his powerful, yet dynamic voice, Rabbit delivers a lyrically sharp, self-analytical collection of songs that chronicle leaving one place for another.  The sound is best described as well-thought indie-pop that draws its influence from folk, blues, and rock.

Privileged and popular Caleb Mason is celebrating his high school graduation when he receives a mysterious, disturbing letter from his long-lost childhood playmate, Christine. Caleb and his jokester friend Bean decide to travel to his tiny hometown of Hudsonville, Florida, to find her. Upon arrival, they discover the town has taken a horrifying turn for the worse. Caleb's childhood home is abandoned and his father has disappeared. Children are going missing. The old insane asylum has reopened, and Christine is locked inside. Her mother, a witch, is consumed with madness, and Christine's long-dead twin sister whispers clues to Caleb through the static of an a.m. radio. The terrifying prophesies of the spirits are coming to pass. Sixteen clocks are ticking; sixty-six murdered souls will bring about the end of the world. As Caleb peels back layer after layer of mystery, he uncovers a truth more horrible than anything he had imagined, a truth that could only be uttered by the lips of the dead.

When Rachael Davis first opened her mouth to sing she had clear tone, sharp control, an extensive range and a keen understanding about the nature of a tune, which were all unusual for a two-year-old.  Her parents as her early muses encouraged her to sing, play and write music.  Her varied instrumental accomplishments make a show with Rachael a must-see.  Her folksy-blues style is reminiscent of mountain music, and her pure voice is like the stream that cuts through it.

The Andreas family is one of readers. Their father, a renowned Shakespeare professor who speaks almost entirely in verse, has named his three daughters after famous Shakespearean women. When the sisters return to their childhood home, ostensibly to care for their ailing mother, but really to lick their wounds and bury their secrets, they are horrified to find the others there. See, we love each other. We just don't happen to like each other very much. But the sisters soon discover that everything they've been running from—one another, their small hometown, and themselves—might offer more than they ever expected.
