City Pulse Michigan Book Club Kick-off Meeting
The Lansing City Pulse is launching a new book club focusing on both fiction and non-fiction books by Michigan authors and/or books which are set in Michigan. The first book selection is X: A Novel by Ilyasha Shabazz, the daughter of Malcolm X and Kekla Magoon, and author of eight young adult novels. X: A Novel is also the 2017-2018 Michigan Humanities Council Great Michigan Read selection. The meeting will be led by John Aerni-Flessner, MSU Assistant Professor in the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities, who teaches a class on Malcolm X’s time in Lansing.
In cooperation with the Michigan Humanities Council and Schuler Books, City Pulse has arranged for 30 copies of the book to be made available for free for the first 30 readers who sign up for the book club and visit Schuler Books and mention the club. (15 copies of the book available at each of the Lansing-area Schuler stores.)
To sign up, email BookCub@Lansingcitypulse.com – all members of the public are welcome to join. Members of the book club will also have the opportunity to meet with Ilyasah Shabazz prior to her visit to Lansing on October 12.
