the unforgettable story of two young people confronting life during a
tumultuous few months of 1957. Set in rural northern Michigan, it
chronicles the unlikely friendship between a fourteen-year-old boy,
Danny DeWitt, and a pregnant teenage girl, abandoned by her boyfriend
and rejected by her family. The friendship is tested when the girl's
abusive boyfriend returns, and Danny's family begins to break apart,
leading to a crisis which threatens the unborn child, as well as Danny's
conception of love and manhood. Reflecting the politics and culture of
the 1950's, Season of Water and Ice is a realistic work that will appeal
to both adult land young adult readers. |
