In December 2012, the U.S. government launched a secret program to create superhumans called Ascendants. In July 2018, the U.S. government lost control over them. Now, America enters a new era in which ordinary men and women can become the heroes we need . . . or the monsters we fear.

When firefighter Bill Goddard raced into a blazing building to rescue trapped children, he expected to die. Instead, he became something more than human—the nation's first ascendant. Now known as American Eagle, Bill must assemble a team of other ascended heroes to defend the country from villainous forces intent on wreaking chaos and destruction. But the process of ascension is fraught with peril, and not everyone emerges with their mind and morality unscathed.

In America's hour of need, who will answer the call? And can they do what it takes to protect the nation without sacrificing the values they've sworn to uphold?
Alexander Macris has written 16 tabletop roleplaying game sourcebooks and designed four games, including the 2020 superhero game Ascendant. He is the author of the gamester guide Arbiter of Worlds and the creator of the Ascendant Universe. He lives in Durham, North Carolina, with his wife, Amy.

David Campit has been writing comics for four decades, including such varied projects as Superman, Lost in Space, Hero Alliance, Goddess Girls, Heroes in Training, and Pandora’s Blogs. He wrote Stan Lee’s How to Draw Comics with the legendary Marvel co-creator. As owner of Glass House Studios, he oversees animation on projects large and small and is agent to more than 200 artists worldwide. He resides in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, with his wife Bella and their two daughters.
