Amma Tell Me about the Avatars of Vishnu!: Part 1 (Paperback)

A beautifully illustrated picture book written in rhyme. Ideal for children in the 3 to 8 year age group and for parents and educators looking to introduce the stories of Hindu Gods, mythology and culture to children.

Hear Amma narrate the story of the first avatar of Vishnu Of how he takes the form of a fish, Matsya and comes to save the world from a terrible deluge. How he fights a terrible demon and helps King Manu save the world.

In 2010, Bhakti, then a private banker, was looking for a picture book on Holi, the Indian festival of colours, to educate her young sons about the festival. Unable to find something appropriate, she decided to write one herself. A decade later, she has just launched the 13th title of 'Amma Tell Me, ' a series of children's picture books about Hindu festivals and mythology. Like many of her peers from Delhi, Bhakti originally studied 'safe' subjects, but after a 22-year career in banking, she decided to leave Finance behind to pursue the dream of becoming an author. While Bhakti was working on her MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Hong Kong, she received an offer from Penguin India, which gave rise to a spin-off series called "Amma Take Me" about historic places of worship. This series now has four titles. Bhakti hosts storytelling sessions, reading and writing workshops at schools, and has been a speaker at Literary Festivals such as the Hindu Lit for Life Festival (Chennai), Bookaroo Festival of Children's Literature (Delhi), literary festivals in Hong Kong, Singapore and the Jaipur Literary Festival. She freelances as a culture and health & fitness feature writer for the South China Morning Post and has written more than 55 articles to date. Bhakti lives in Hong Kong with her husband, their two children and juggles her time between her writing, her passion for yoga, and her family. An avid runner and hiker, Bhakti has called Hong Kong home since 2000. She ran the New York Marathon in 2017 and is currently training to be an Iyengar yoga teacher. Bhakti is an ICF credentialed life and career coach and is currently pursuing a one-year Diploma in Buddhist Studies from Tibet House, Delhi (founded in 1965 by the Dalai Lama to provide a center for Buddhist Studies). When not writing or running after her two young boys, Bhakti is happiest curled up with a book and a cup of chai with her four-legged companions Rafa and Sam by her side.
