Capitol City Writers Association Meeting

Wednesday, September 6, 2017 - 7:00pm to 8:30pm

Capital City Writers is a professional association for career-focused writers in and around Lansing, Michigan. Founded in 2013 by four professional writers, the organization is designed to provide support and learning opportunities for working and aspiring writers in their publishing pursuits.  Meetings are open to the public.

This month’s topic is WORLDBUILDING: It’s Not Just for Fantasy Writers. Award-winning, New York Times bestselling author Colleen Gleason has created a different “world” for each of the six series she writes (paranormal, steampunk, historical fiction, dystopian fiction, and more). Every editor she’s ever worked with (at Penguin, HarperCollins, Harlequin, and others) says that a compelling world is what engages readers and brings them back for more. Join her for her most popular workshop—an interactive one—where she takes you through the steps of building a compelling world that readers can step right into.

Colleen Gleason is an award-winning, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author who writes in a number of genres. She’s written for HarperCollins, Penguin Group, Harlequin, Chronicle Books and Kensington. Throughout her career, she's created many different worlds in her fiction writing—including a dystopian Las Vegas, a steampunk Victorian England, a small lake town in Michigan, and a steeped-in-history mystery series set during the Lincoln presidency.
