"Pickering and the Glass Universe"
Jim Foerch, GRAAA Treasurer

Edward Charles Pickering directed the Harvard College Observatory from 1877 until 1919. During that period, he and a talented team of women 'computers' developed the classification of stellar spectra, established the period-luminosity relation for the cosmic distances, and assembled a historic collection of astro-photographs. It is a fascinating story.

Following the presentation, there will be a brief discussion of important astronomical events of 2019, including the total lunar eclipse visible overnight on Sunday January 20.

All members and their guests are welcome. This meeting is free and open to the public.
